As we get closer to spring time, many families come from Houston and Dallas to enjoy Lake Cypress Springs. Near the lake is the small town of Winnsboro. There are many unique stores and delicious restaurants to enjoy in this quaint Piney Woods town, along with wonderful lodging options for friends and family. When my husband and I visited Winnsboro, I totally enjoyed myself because he could fish, hunt and enjoy the outdoors, while I shopped the Main Street retail stores and hit the beautiful full service spa for a facial called the Copperleaf. We love coming here just for the weekend to relax and get away from the big city. I highly recommend Winnsboro if you or your family love to be outdoors and love to shop. East Texas is so beautiful! We found overnight lodging that sleeps up to 6 in a gated apartment community, within walking distance from downtown restaurants and stores, and we will be staying there when we return. I can’t wait to take my family again to enjoy this wonderful little town.

A Special Valentine’s Day Event!

The Winnsboro Four Corners Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit, raises funding for the Winnsboro Fine Art Market production each November. This Valentine’s Day there will be appetizers at participating downtown businesses, then to Double C Steak House or Brewbaker’s (your choice) for dinner, and off to the Keyring Gallery, our new art gallery, for dessert and optional pictures of you and your Valentine, and drawing for a special weekend in Winnsboro.

The Bonnie Blue Ball Saturday, February 4, 2012 in my favorite little town of Winnsboro, TX

The 7th Bonnie Blue Ball will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012, starting at 5 PM at the newly renovated Winnsboro City Auditorium. The event will honor the birthdays of Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee.

Authentic music, manners and dances of the era lets everyone “time travel” back over a century. The band will be the popular 12th Louisiana from Monroe, LA.

People drive over a 100 miles to attend this festive celebration. It is magical to see the beautiful gowns exhibited as they dance across the dance floor with their partners to the old tunes another century.

It is simple, affordable, and if you don’t have beautiful dress or suit, you are welcomed to attend in slacks. Family Fun In Winnsboro!

This Christmas, my family spent time in the fun little town of Winnsboro, Texas, located in the Piney Woods of East Texas, a great place for families that love to be near lakes for fishing, boating & camping. It’s only an hour and a half drive for us from Dallas, 45 minutes from Tyler for my cousins. We enjoyed the beautiful mornings, looking across Lake Cypress Springs and drinking coffee with family. While we were visiting, we went into town and investigated the quaint shops on Main Street which were all decked out for Christmas. Winnsboro is a great town for anyone who is contemplating retirement, with so many art and music venues, fantastic shopping, and excellent restaurants. After we shopped and had lattes at Art and Espresso, we went to The Leaves of Winnsboro and looked at the new apartments that are being built in town. This will be a wonderful addition for people that would love to stay a weekend or even a few months, to get a good feel of what kind of town Winnsboro is.

My family and I have been to tons of events in Winnsboro, from car shows, Art Market, Crazy Dayz, fishing tournaments, golfing, holiday events and more. This year we went to the Art Market and there was a wide variety of exhibitors with unique items for sale. One of my favorite booths had custom bird houses that were made like castles. The craftsmanship was superb, and I couldn’t decide whether to give it as a Christmas present or to enjoy in my own home. And the beautiful paintings on display!

Another event that my husband enjoyed was the car show this year. They had tons of entries, from antique to new cars, and we voted on our favorite. Mine was the 1956 Ford Truck; my husband’s was the old Corvettes. We can’t agree on the same toothpaste, let alone cars. Even the kids were included by the organizers, as they could pick their favorite car as well. This is a great event to go to and enjoy walking the streets of Winnsboro with your family.

These are just a few events that we enjoyed while visiting Winnsboro this last year. If you’re looking for a place to relax and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of an “uptown” country setting, with fresh air and perks of the big city, without the hassle of traffic and big crowds, look no further than Winnsboro. It’s a town for all ages, from senior citizens, widows, and baby boomers, to young families, youth & little children. I can’t wait to take my family to the events that will be held in 2012 in this fun East Texas town.
